31st January 2024
Wortley House Hotel, Scunthorpe.

Dear GMB Member
We are delighted and excited to invite you to the inaugural meeting of a new merged Branch for GMB Members in the North Lincolnshire area.
The merger is of the 4 GMB Branches already in the North Lincs area and brings together a huge amount of experience from the existing representatives and Branch officials. It will also mean that Branch income going forward will be pooled so we can create a fighting fund to support local campaigns in the workplace and wider community.
As a new merged Branch of the GMB, there will need to be a vote to elect a brand new Branch Committee.
I am looking for individuals to register their interest in stepping into the different roles. Please email me directly before 29th January to express your interest colin.todd@gmb.org.uk
The two key positions are Branch Secretary and Branch President but all roles are important.
Each Branch will have a president, secretary, equality officer, youth officer, race officer and two auditors (except in Branches of less than 100 members, which will only have one auditor), and a committee of no less than nine members. The president, secretary, equality officer, youth officer and race officer will all be members of the committee, and will act within the powers set out in these rules. There will need to be at least five members present at the committee meetings for any decisions to be valid (known as a quorum).
You can see the role and responsibilities in the GMB Rule Book. Page 32, rules from 35 – 43 inc.
https://www.gmb.org.uk/assets/media/documents/gmb-rulebook-2023.pdf
We also need to name the new Branch. The initial suggestion is GMB North Lincs Branch, but we will need to vote on this too.
I look forward to seeing you there.
Yours sincerely
Colin Todd

NJC PAY 2023/24 UPDATE
Thank you to all GMB members who took part in the recent survey consulting on what your aspirations were for pay this year. The results were discussed at a joint meeting of the GMB National Local Government and Schools Committees on 11th January 2023 and it was agreed that GMB would ask for the following to be included in this year’s pay claim:
The NJC Executive (GMB, Unison and Unite), met on 16th January 2023 to discuss each unions proposed pay claim. The following has been agreed for the joint union pay claim for 2023/24 and this has now been submitted to the Local Government Association.
NJC PAY CLAIM: 2023/24
In addition:
You can request a copy of the detailed pay claim from your local GMB Representative.
Employers will now be briefed on the joint union pay claim and we expect pay negotiations to commence before the end of February. Further updates will follow in due course.
You can also find information about the campaign for a properly funded pay rise for local government and school workers by clicking here to visit the main GMB campaign page.

Further to recent updates GMB is now able to announce that the 2021 1.75% pay award has finally been agreed by Unison as well as GMB meaning that it can now be paid to you.
Having delivered our ballot in January, it has been frustrating waiting for news from the other unions knowing that any payment made after March will be subject to higher National Insurance costs as a result of the increase due on 1st April. Although the costs involved in this are negligible (for example, an employee on £20,000 PA would lose £4.38) we believe that you should get every penny of what a low award is and have been pushing to ensure that you get it.
GMB reps and officers are now pushing for Councils to make the payment in March to ensure that you get your back pay as soon as possible.
Now that the current pay round has been concluded, GMB will be consulting with members on your pay aspirations for 2022.
We know that inflation is at a level not seen for thirty years and that is before the additional costs caused by the increase in the energy price cap come into effect. Government and your employers need to understand that you simply can’t be expected to accept further below inflation pay awards and we will need to send a message that unless they table a decent rise, our members will not accept it. As a result, please keep an eye out for further bulletins as we fight for fair wages over the coming months.
Should you have any issues please contact the Branch Secretary, Leona Roberts, in the first instance and not the Full Time Officer. The same applies to Workplace Representative when contacted by a member for support please make the Branch Secretary aware and she will advise the next course of action.
